These are tough times for Canadians as our Ottawa kleptocracy blunders on.
I was pleased the other night to receive an email from Leadnow.ca. They ran a poll showing some 90% of Canadians felt our government should not be allowing off-shore tax havens. But then it should have more like 95 per cent, because only about two or three per cent get to patronize these off-shore havens.
Their poll was immediately followed by a petition as a call to action on this atrocity. I dutifully signed the petition as I usually do. I support Leadnow.ca as they are one group who actually lobby on half of the public good. Their efforts are hard-pressed to offset the thousands of lobbyists who have the ear of government, who don’t give a damn about the public good. They deserve our support.
Polls and petitions don’t do a hell of a lot of good. Often they confirm what we already know. It is a long road from polls and petitions to actually getting effective legislation passed. Ask Conservative Senator Linda Frum.
